Did Lost pressure alter government course?

I came across a Toronto Star article this weekend about how "Losties" may have altered the plans of the White House.  In short, a proposed change of schedule to the State of the Union address threatened the final season premiere of the TV series Lost.  This led to a massive outcry from avid Lost viewers ("Losties") through multiple web-based social media like Facebook and Twitter.  The result?  The conflcting date is no longer one being considered for the address.

While it is inconclusive that the date was changed entirely because of Lost viewers, I think this is a great illustration of how decisions in government can sometimes be influenced by public pressure.  It's amazing what can result from a committed group of interested individuals who are willing to be vocal and state their concerns in the public square.  And though this is an American example, and perhaps things are different north of the border, it's interesting to imagine what the power of community and a unified chorus of concern may influence.
